Guadalupe: Korea Republic's FIFA World Cup 2026 hopes were left hanging by a thread following a 1-0 defeat to South Africa in their concluding Group A tie on Wednesday.

The defeat meant South Africa - who have never done so before - joined group winners Mexico in advancing automatically while Korea Republic's fate now depends on whether they can qualify for the next stage as one of the eight best third-placed sides.

Seattle: Qatar's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign came to an end following a 3-1 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in their concluding Group B tie on Wednesday.

The defeat at the Seattle Stadium meant Qatar ended their journey on the global stage with a single point while victory took Bosnia-Herzegovina into the knockout stage for the first time.

Vancouver: Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi fired Switzerland to top spot in Group B on Wednesday, sealing a 2-1 win over Canada in their FIFA World Cup 2026 tie as the co-hosts also ensured a historic spot in the knockout rounds.

With the top two teams in the pool meeting in Vancouver, both knew that a victory would ensure first place in the group and, in theory, a kinder draw in the knockout stages.
 
Vargas and Manzambi's second-half strikes were enough to ensure the Swiss finished on seven points, while Promise David pulled a goal back in the final 15 minutes for Canada but they finished up three points behind their opponent but reach the last 32 for the first time in their history.

The Japanese handed Tunisia a 4-0 defeat on Saturday having started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands to sit in a strong position to claim pole position and a more favourable draw in the next phase of the competition.

Japan are level on points and goal difference with the Dutch but would need to defeat the Swedes at Dallas Stadium by more than Ronald Koeman's side win over the Tunisians if they are to have any hope of climbing to the summit.

Tuchel insists England remain on course despite Ghana draw

Foxborough: England head coach Thomas Tuchel admitted his team had lacked a cutting edge in a frustrating 0-0 draw with Ghana on Tuesday but insisted there were plenty of positive signs going forward in their quest to win the FIFA World Cup.

England had 79 percent of the possession but could not break down a determined Ghanaian defence in the Group L contest.

They also lacked the cutting edge which made the difference in their opening 4-2 win against Croatia in Dallas, having 19 attempts on goal but managing only three on target.
