Zapopan: Colombia finally broke down a stubborn Congo DR side on Tuesday to secure a 1-0 win that guaranteed their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout rounds.

Victory in Guadalajara, courtesy of a 76th-minute goal from Daniel Munoz, took them top of Group K with six points – two clear of Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal with one game to go in the first round.
 
Portugal, held 1-1 by Congo DR in their opening match, earlier defeated Uzbekistan 5-0 in Houston, with Ronaldo scoring twice.

Houston: Uzbekistan's FIFA World Cup 2026 suffered a blow after they fell to a 5-0 defeat against Portugal in their Group K tie on Tuesday.

It was Uzbekistan's second consecutive defeat and it left the debutants staring at elimination as Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in six FIFA World Cup campaigns with the captain striking twice as Portugal bounced back in style from their 1-1 draw with Congo DR.

Santa Clara: Jamal Sellami admitted inexperience was the major reason for Jordan's 2-1 defeat to Algeria in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J tie on Monday.

The tournament debutants took the lead through Nizar Al Rashdan in the 36th minute but Algeria hit back in the second half through Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri, with the defeat consigning Jordan to an early exit.

Philadelphia: Kylian Mbappe said he was not paying too much attention to FIFA World Cup scoring records after getting two more goals on what he described as a draining night in Philadelphia, as France beat Iraq 3-0 in a game interrupted by a two-hour storm delay on Monday.

Mbappe's strikes came either side of half-time on his 100th appearance for France, and Ousmane Dembele the other goal in a game which was held up at half-time as torrential rain lashed the city.
