Felix Sanchez to lead Qatar till 2022

Doha: The Qatar Football Association announced on Monday that Felix Sanchez will remain as the head coach of the national team until 2022.

QFA President HE Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmad Al Thani extended the Spaniard's contract until 2022 to continue the technical stability of the national team, who will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Futuristic Al Wakrah Stadium to host Amir Cup final

Al Wakrah: Qatar's Amir Cup final will be held at the Al Wakrah Stadium on May 16, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy announced on Thursday. 

The futuristic 40,000 capacity arena, which is inspired by dhow boats, is nearing completion. It was also reported that the pitch was laid in record time - nine hours and 15 minutes.

The elegant stadium will also host 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar matches through to the quarter-finals.

Qatar to play Brazil ahead of Copa America

Rio de Janeiro: Brazil will play 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar in one of their last two friendlies before the Copa America gets underway in June, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Saturday.

Asian champions Qatar are to make their Copa America debut in Brazil as one of two invitees to the South American tournament alongside Japan, making their second appearance.

Brazil will host Qatar in the capital Brasilia on June 5 before playing Honduras in Porto Alegre - a Copa America host city - on June 9.

Sydney: Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirmed on Friday that an agreement with the Korean Football Association (KFA) has been finalised for an international friendly to be played between the Socceroos and Korea Republic in the forthcoming FIFA match window.

Graham Arnold’s Socceroos will take on Paulo Bento’s Taeguk Warriors on June 7 in Busan, Australia’s first senior men’s match since the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.

Cannavaro steps down as China PR head coach 

Shanghai: Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro has resigned as head coach of China PR after just two matches in charge, both 1-0 home defeats.

The 45-year-old Cannavaro made the announcement on social media and said it was to focus on his family and his job as coach of Chinese Super League (CSL) side Guangzhou Evergrande.
