Japan's hopes ended by Spain

Lyon: Fermin Lopez scored a goal in each half to end Japan’s hopes of a medal at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 on Friday as Spain handed Go Oiwa’s Asian under 23 champions a 3-0 quarter-final defeat in Lyon.

The Barcelona playmaker struck from outside the penalty area in the 11th and 73rd minutes to end Japanese dreams of a first Olympic medal since claiming bronze in Mexico City in 1968 while Spain advance to face Morocco in the semi-finals.

Mao Hosoya had a first half effort ruled out for a marginal offside decision after Lopez had put the Spanish ahead and the Kashiwa Reysol forward also hit the post as the Japanese exited the tournament.

Abu Dhabi: Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny was unveiled as a new signing by UAE Pro League side Al Jazira Club on Tuesday.
