Bajrami joins Al Taawoun; Kennedy makes Macarthur switch

Kuala Lumpur: Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun have strengthened their attacking options with the loan signing of Albania international Nedim Bajrami, while Macarthur FC have added Scottish winger Kai Kennedy to their ranks.

Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers were also active in the women’s transfer market, securing New Zealand international Maggie Jenkins and Lebanon defender Tiana Jaber respectively.

Riyadh: Georgios Donis fully comprehends the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders as he looks to lead Saudi Arabia to their first AFC Asian Cup™ title in more than 30 years in the 2027 edition in January.

Donis, who hails from Greece and was appointed last April ahead of Saudi Arabia’s FIFA World Cup 2026 challenge, believes his long-standing knowledge and experience in West Asia puts him in good stead for what lies ahead.

Kuala Lumpur: Head coach Simone Inzaghi has further strengthened Al Hilal SFC’s star-studded squad with the signing of Netherlands international Crysencio Summerville, while Japan midfielder Hidemasa Morita has completed a move to English side Hull City.

Summerville joined the four-time Asian champions from West Ham United on a four-year contract, with the signing completed at Al Hilal’s pre-season training camp in Austria.

Kuala Lumpur: Saudi Arabia midfielder Naif Masoud has joined Al Ahli Saudi FC on a four-year contract while Japan goalkeeper Akane Okuma has completed a move to English Women’s Super League side Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old Masoud arrives from Al Fateh and becomes Al Ahli’s fifth addition of the transfer window, following Abubakar Sidi Kinteh, Francisco Trincao, Eduard Spertsyan and Mishal Al Mutairi.

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ China 2027 is all set for take off following the conclusion of the Qualifiers Draw at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The 30 teams - two more than the previous record of 28 from the 2019 Qualifiers - were divided into eight groups - six of four and two of three - to contest a single round-robin centralised league from October 5 to 11.

Each group winner will advance to the Finals, joining the quartet of teams that have qualified directly as the top four finishers from the 2026 campaign: defending champions DPR Korea, runners-up Japan, and semi-finalists Australia and China PR.

Jeddah: Reigning AFC Champions League™ Elite title holders Al Ahli Saudi FC have announced the departure of Riyad Mahrez from the club.

Houston: Georgios Donis admitted Saudi Arabia had only themselves to blame after being eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Friday.

A win against Cabo Verde would have sealed knockout stage progression for the first time since their debut appearance in the 1994 edition but the three-time AFC Asian Cup™ champions could only manage a goalless draw.

That meant tournament debutants Cabo Verde advanced as the Group H runners-up while Saudi Arabia were left to rue a missed opportunity as they finished on two points.

Houston: Saudi Arabia were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 after playing to a goalless draw with Cabo Verde in their final Group H match on Friday.

The stalemate meant Saudi Arabia finished on two points while debutants Cabo Verde stunningly advanced to the knockout stage as runners-up behind Spain.
Unbeaten in their three group matches, the archipelago nation of just over 500,000 will play Lionel Messi's Argentina in Miami on July 3 in another chapter to their remarkable story.
