McConkey heartbroken but proud of Svay Rieng’s progress

Ardhiyah: Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC were left to once again endure heartbreak after a dramatic extra-time defeat to Kuwait SC in the AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ final on Wednesday.

The Cambodian side, who also fell at the same stage last year, twice led the pulsating contest at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium but couldn’t hold on as Kuwait SC lifted the trophy with a 4-3 win. 

Head coach McConkey admitted that his team had opportunities to close out the game and were punished for not doing so.

Kuwait SC’s Ammouri named MVP

Ardhiyah: Amr Abd El Fattah Ammouri was named the Most Valuable Player of the AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ after producing a series of sparkling performances in Kuwait SC’s title-winning campaign.

In Wednesday's final against Cambodia’s Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, the Egyptian provided two assists as Kuwait SC battled back from 2-0 down in the first half to level the score at 2-2.

Ammouri then came to Kuwait SC’s rescue in extra time, cancelling out Cristian’s 96th-minute strike before Yousef Al Sulaiman’s winner secured a well-deserved victory for the Kuwaiti club.

Ardhiyah: Kuwait SC came from behind twice to defeat Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC 4-3 in the AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ final at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium on Wednesday.

Trailing 2-0 and 3-2, Kuwait SC roared before almost 44,000 fans to turn the tie around in extra time to lift the trophy, their fourth on the continental stage.

It was heartbreak for Cambodia's Svay Rieng as they finished runners-up for the second successive year but can walk tall after giving their best.
