Group F: Philippines 0-5 Iraq

Manila: Iraq cruised into the next round of preliminaries for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and booked their berth at the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ as Jesus Casas’ side notched up a 5-0 win over the Philippines on Tuesday to stay perfect in Group F.

Aymen Hussein’s first half brace, scored either side of Amir Ali Ammari’s 31st minute strike, sent the Lions of Mesopotamia on their way to a comprehensive victory over the Azkals at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Zidane Iqbal and Zaid Tahseen netted in the second half to seal a win that moves Iraq onto a maximum 12 points from their opening four games and guarantees Casas’ team will finish in the top two places to enter into the draw for the next phase on June 27.

Kuala Lumpur: Nguyen Filip has called for Vietnam to take the initiative against Indonesia in their Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ tie to boost their hopes of progressing from Group F.

In the other match, the Philippines will be aiming to spoil Iraq’s party when they welcome the West Asian side to Manila.

Basra: Iraq made it three wins out of three after edging the Philippines 1-0 in Group F of the Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday.

A late Mohanad Ali strike meant Iraq opened a five-point lead over Indonesia, who defeated Vietnam 1-0 in the group’s other tie.

Group F: Macarthur take top spot

Manila: Australia’s Macarthur FC sealed their place in the AFC Cup™ 2023/2024 ASEAN Zonal semi-finals after a comfortable 3-0 win over Dynamic Herb Cebu FC at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Thursday.

Matthew Millar put the visitors in front on three minutes before substitute Jed Drew increased Macarthur’s lead midway through the second half. Ali Auglah added the icing on the cake in stoppage time in a match that the Australians dominated for long spells.
 
The victory saw Mile Sterjovski’s men seal top spot in Group F with 15 points from their six games, ahead of runners-up Phnom Penh Crown of Cambodia, with Cebu finishing third above Myanmar’s Shan United.

Jackson lauds Mariners’ strong finish

Binan: Head coach Mark Jackson praised Central Coast Mariners’ determination in their 3-0 win over Stallion Laguna FC in their final AFC Cup™ 2023/24 Group G tie at the Binan Football Stadium on Wednesday.

The Australian side led from start to finish to seal top spot with 13 points, while the Philippines club ended their campaign with just a draw.

Group G: Heartbreak for Incheon

Manila: Incheon United narrowly missed out on a place in the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 Round of 16 after their 3-1 victory over Kaya FC-Iloilo at Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday was only enough to see them finish third in Group G.

Park Seung-ho opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game before Choi Woo-jin made it two in the 25th minute. But Simone Rota pulled one back for the home side eight minutes into the second half to leave the match on a knife edge before a late Kim Do-hyeok penalty secured the victory. 
 
However, with Yokohama F. Marinos beating Shandong Taishan 3-0 in the simultaneous Group G fixture, the three teams all wound up on 12 points. And it was Incheon – due to an inferior head-to-head goal difference against the other two – who missed out on progression to the next phase.

Binan: Central Coast Mariners FC defeated Stallion Laguna FC 3-0 to seal top spot in Group G of the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 on Wednesday.

The win took the Australians to 13 points and they can now set their eyes on the ASEAN Zonal semi-finals while Philippines’ side Stallion ended their campaign with just a point.

ASEAN Wrap: JDT win quadruple again; Sailors lift Singapore Cup

Kuala Lumpur: Johor Darul Ta’zim completed the quadruple for the second season running after defeating Terengganu 3-1 in the Malaysia Cup final on Friday to add to their Malaysia Super League, FA Cup and Charity Shield triumphs this year. 

Lion City Sailors emerged as the Singapore Cup champions for the first time by overcoming Hougang United 3-1 in Saturday's final at Jalan Besar Stadium while Tampines Rovers claimed third place by defeating DPMM FC 2-0.

Group F: Phnom Penh Crown FC (CAM) 4-0 Dynamic Herb Cebu FC (PHI)

Phnom Penh: Phnom Penh Crown FC matched Australia’s Macarthur FC on 12 points at the top of Group F of the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 after the Cambodian champions defeated Dynamic Herb Cebu FC 4-0 at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium on Thursday. 

Shintaro Shimizu opened the scoring for the home side in the 12th minute before Yudai Ogawa netted with a free kick in the 29th minute to double Phnom Penh’s lead. Substitute Lim Pisoth then added to the score twice in the second half to seal a decisive victory for Oleg Starynskyi’s side.
