Gianni Infantino praises the success of Asian football

Manama: Gianni Infantino praised the success of Asian football during the 32nd Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress, where he received wholehearted support for his candidacy in next year’s FIFA Presidential election.

Emphasising his close working relationship with AFC President and FIFA Senior Vice-President Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the FIFA President pledged to keep working “side by side” with the AFC and said that continuity would bring even greater results, ahead of a most important year for football in Asia, with the FIFA World Cup™ kicking off in Qatar in just over 6 months from now.

Group A: Al Ansar, Kuwait SC share points

Muscat: Three-time champions Kuwait SC and Lebanese powerhouse Al Ansar played out a 1-1 draw at Seeb Sports Stadium in Group A of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Wednesday.

Kuwait had taken the lead through Taha Khenissi in the first half but Al Ansar fought back to equalise through substitute Jaime Siaj in the second half.

Group B: Dhofar Club too strong for Shabab Al Khalil

Kuwait City: Oman's Dhofar Club kicked off their AFC Cup™ 2022 Group B campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Shabab Al Khalil of Palestine on Wednesday.

Dhofar took the lead as early as the 11th minute through Muthna Awadh Bait Amer, before further goals from Omar Al Malki and Awadh Al Shahri in the second half ensured all three points for the Omani club.

Group C: East Riffa fight back to hold Nejmeh SC

Muharraq: Bahrain’s East Riffa came from behind to hold Nejmeh SC of Lebanon 1-1 in Group C of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Wednesday.

Abdulah Mubarak opened Nejmeh’s account with a second half spot-kick but East Riffa clawed their way back with Luiz Fernando netting the equaliser to salvage a draw at the Muharraq Stadium.
