Breakthrough programmes for match officials lauded by AFC Referees Committee

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Referees Committee’s commitment to produce world-class match officials capable of gracing the world’s biggest stages was further reinforced today at its third meeting held virtually.

Chairperson Hany Taleb B S Al-Raeesi led the Committee in commending the numerous innovative programmes introduced and implemented throughout the years – all with the aim to educate, train and enhance the capabilities and skillsets of the Continent’s match officials, so many of whom have been entrusted in record numbers to oversee some of the most high-profile matches in world football.

AFC Referee Academy fosters development with FA Selangor

Kuala Lumpur: Match officials from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) were provided with valuable hands-on experience during a training camp held at the Football Association of Selangor (FAS).

A referee development initiative held as part of the Memorandum of Agreement inked between both parties last December, the five-day event ran from June 25 to 29, 2025 and took place at various venues in Subang Jaya, including the FASpace at Tanjong Subang Jaya, Red Giants Physio Centre and 3K Complex Field.

Yongin: Hajime Moriyasu and Hong Myung-bo both expressed satisfaction as the 2025 EAFF (E1) Football Championship concluded on Tuesday.

Japan defended their title with a 1-0 win over Korea Republic to finish on nine points, with both head coaches taking a wider view of the tournament, which served as part of their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

With Europe-based players not part of his squad, Moriyasu relied on J1 League talent with the likes of Taisei Miyashiro and Ryo Germain among those given opportunities, with the Japan tactician pleased with what he saw.

Oman appoint Queiroz as head coach

Muscat: Oman named Carlos Queiroz as their new head coach on Tuesday as the West Asian side bid to reach the FIFA World Cup 2026.
