Dushanbe: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, today announced two new development programmes, which are tailormade and aimed at further strengthening the capacity of the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs) in growing the game more systematically across the Continent.

Chairing the 10th AFC Executive Committee meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, the first-ever to be held in the Central Asian nation, the AFC President commenced the proceedings by extending his gratitude to the Tajikistan Football Federation for their warm welcome and hospitality.

With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to severely impact the lives and livelihoods across the globe and in Asia, the AFC and QFA acknowledged that staging such an occasion would be inappropriate particularly during a time in which millions of lives have been lost including those who have dedicated their life to the game in Asia and beyond.

AFC Executive Committee reiterates commitment to deliver 2021 competitions

Manama: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa today acknowledged the commitment and unity of the AFC Member Associations (MAs) towards the resumption of the Asian football calendar in 2021.

Chairing the 7th AFC Executive Committee meeting in Manama, Bahrain, the AFC President said that the highest health standards and protocols implemented during the successful staging of the AFC Champions League 2020 in Doha, Qatar, had provided a comprehensive blueprint to replicate in 2021, and thanked the AFC MAs for their interest in hosting the centralised formats of the upcoming Asian Qualifiers, the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup.
Shaikh Salman said: “The successful completion of the 2020 AFC Champions League has given us a template to approach 2021 with greater confidence and our thanks must go to the Qatar Football Association, the Qatari Authorities and the medical professionals for their commitment and support.

AFC Executive Committee announces updates to 2020 competitions calendar

Kuala Lumpur: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, today thanked the Qatar Football Association for their willingness to host the return of the AFC Champions League in the West region.

At the AFC Executive meeting, held online, the AFC President congratulated everyone involved in the hard work that has been required to ensure that the AFC Champions League Group Stage West region and knockout rounds can go ahead safely.

Shaikh Salman said: “A huge amount of work has been undertaken to ensure these matches can kick off on September 14 and the AFC has been extremely professional in ensuring that the matches can go ahead and go ahead safely.

“These matches will be dedicated to our frontline health and care workers who have been the real stars in recent months. The return of football is something to celebrate and so is the contribution of the frontline workers.

“It gives some hope to see football back and there has been great work in putting in place the necessary protocols and procedures to keep everyone safe, so we are taking the first steps. We will also work closely with all the stakeholders in Asia and with FIFA to ensure that football continues.”

AFC President hails unity and solidarity of Asian football family 

Kuala Lumpur: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, today acknowledged the solidarity and unity which has not only allowed the AFC to begin the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic but also deliver more global events to Asia.

Hosts for AFC Women’s and Club Futsal Championships confirmed

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee has ratified the AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee’s recommendations to confirm Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates as the hosts for the upcoming AFC Women’s Futsal Championship and AFC Futsal Club Championship respectively.

The AFC was one of the first Confederations to introduce an elite futsal competition in the women’s game and the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship in Kuwait will see the Islamic Republic of Iran chase their third consecutive title after the reigning queens of Asian futsal captured the 2018 crown in Thailand as well as the inaugural 2015 edition in Malaysia.

30th AFC Congress postponed

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee has decided to postpone the 30th AFC Congress initially scheduled for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 16, 2020.

Following the unavoidable postponement of the AFC Audit, Finance and Legal Committee meetings as well as the AFC Executive Committee meeting because of heightened health concerns and travel restrictions, it was agreed that the Congress will take place at a later date that will be decided by the AFC Executive Committee.
