Al Ittihad part ways with Nuno

Riyadh: Al Ittihad have parted ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, the Saudi Pro League champions said, following a poor run of results under the Portuguese coach.

Nuno was under pressure because of their struggles in the Saudi Pro League, and the club made the decision following a 2-0 defeat to Air Force Club of Iraq in the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Monday.

Needing a win on the night to guarantee qualification as group winners, the 2002-03 AFC Champions League winners were controlling, clinical and creative as they swept through the Saudi Pro League side’s defence time and time again.

Ashgabat: Hojimat Erkinov scored a dramatic stoppage time equaliser to help 10-man Pakhtakor FC earn a 1-1 draw against Turkmenistan's Ahal FC in their AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 Group A contest on Tuesday. 

After the Uzbekistan champions had Odiljon Hamrobekov sent off in the 64th minute, hosts Ahal broke the deadlock through Alibek Abdyrahmanow in the 81st minute only for the visitors to equalise late on at Multi-Functional Stadium.

Kuwait City: Al Ittihad Al Ahli Aleppo held their hosts Kuwait SC to a 1-1 draw in Matchday Four of Group B in the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 at Kuwait Stadium on Tuesday.

The two teams had also played out a 1-1 draw in Mecca a fortnight ago, with Mohammed Al Nayef opening the scoring for Al Ittihad who picked up their first point of the campaign and Taha Khenissi equalising for Kuwait SC who remained unbeaten.

Basra: Iraq’s Al Kahrabaa climbed to the summit of Group B of the AFC Cup™ 2023-24 with a convincing 3-1 win over Jordan’s Al Wehdat on Matchday Four at Basra International Stadium on Tuesday.

The reverse fixture in Amman had ended in an emphatic 3-1 victory for Al Wehdat with Bernard Doumbia bagging a brace to hand the Iraqis their first defeat of the campaign.
 
Tuesday’s victory coupled with the 1-1 draw between Kuwait SC and Al Ittihad Al Ahli Aleppo means Al Kahrabaa now top the group with seven points, one ahead of Al Wehdat with two games to go.

Dushanbe: Senin Sebai’s 74th minute strike earned Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol a 1-1 draw with Persepolis in the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Tuesday to leave the side from the Islamic Republic of Iran in second place in Group E with two matches remaining.

The draw came after Mehdi Torabi had given the Iranians a first-half lead and sees Persepolis move onto seven points, still adrift of group leaders Al Nassr ahead of the Saudi Arabian side’s meeting with Al Duhail later.

Doha: An Anderson Talisca hat-trick propelled Al Nassr to an entertaining 3-2 away win over Al Duhail on Matchday Four of Group E of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 at Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday.

Al Nassr had emerged 4-3 winners in a thrilling encounter in Riyadh two weeks ago, with Cristiano Ronaldo bagging a double.
