We showed our character, says Kyoto’s Elias

Kameoka: Rafael Elias said Kyoto Sanga FC showed their character in the second half as they came from two goals down to defeat Newcastle Jets FC 5-2 in their AFC Champions League Elite 2026/27 tie on Tuesday.

Patrick Wood scored twice from the penalty spot in the first half, but Marco Tulio’s brace and goals from Hisashi Appiah Tawiah, Alex Negueba and Rafael Elias earned Kyoto their second win, with Newcastle slumping to a third consecutive defeat.

The victory was the first for the Qatari side after draws in their earlier two matches as they moved up to sixth in the West standings on five points, one behind Al Hilal.

MD3: Ratchaburi FC (THA) 0-0 Kashiwa Reysol (JPN)

Ratchaburi: Ratchaburi FC claimed their first point of the AFC Champions League Elite 2026/27™ on Tuesday as the Thai League 1 outfit held Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol to a 0-0 draw at Ratchaburi Stadium.

Worrawoot Srimaka’s side had lost both of their opening matches in the eastern league phase but put on a strong defensive display against a Kashiwa side that rarely showed the creative quality to break through their hosts’ backline.

The result moves Ricardo Rodriguez’s side onto four points from their first three matches after Kashiwa, semi-finalists in the competition in 2013, had bounced back from an opening loss to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC with a comprehensive win against Port FC last month.
