AFC announces media rights deal with Free TV Australia for the Pacific Islands

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today announced Free TV Australia (Free TV) as their new media partner in various island nations in the Pacific Ocean, including Fiji, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Free TV’s deal covers the AFC’s major national team and club competitions in the year 2022, including the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar™, the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022™, the AFC Champions League™ and the AFC Cup™.

Roller: Port ready for ‘huge’ Ulsan challenge

Bangkok: Philip Roller insists that anything is possible in Port FC’s 2022 AFC Champions League playoff against two-time winners Ulsan Hyundai as the Thai side aim to cause an upset in Korea Republic and reach the group stage for the second successive campaign.

After progressing directly to the 2021 edition to make their competition debut, Port will now have to overcome a continental giant in 2020 champions Ulsan to return to the group stage when the sides face off at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium on March 15.

AFC Club Licensing Task Force outlines roadmap for upcoming AFC Club Licensing cycle

Kuala Lumpur: Following the AFC Executive Committee’s strategic enhancements to the AFC Club Competitions last month, the AFC Club Licensing Task Force has today discussed key changes and the revised timeline to the AFC Club Licensing implementation process at its third meeting held virtually.

In his opening address, AFC Club Licensing Task Force Chairperson Hamad Mohamed Aljneibi recognised the undeniable role of club licensing in raising the professional standards across the Asian football landscape, whilst underlining the importance of raising the quality of compliance among the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs), particularly as the Confederation marked a decade-long journey in club licensing.

1st AFC Grassroots Panel meeting focuses on grassroots football in Asia

Kuala Lumpur: The 1st AFC Grassroots Panel Meeting for the term 2022-2023 gathered virtually on Tuesday to discuss and exchange ideas on how to accelerate the grassroots movement in Asia.

The virtual meeting was attended by 14 panel members from 13 Member Associations (MAs) who were briefed on the latest happenings and future developments in grassroots football.

Manila: The Philippines recently qualified for their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup™, and this historic achievement was at least partly indebted to two American-born sisters. 

The younger McDaniel sibling, 24-year-old Chandler, proved to be a potent attacking weapon for the Philippines during last September's 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. 

First, she provided two assists as Alen Stajcic's side came from behind to beat Nepal 2-1 and then, against Hong Kong, she went one better by scoring the match-winning goal that sent her team through.

Sydney: Sydney FC coach Steve Corica is relishing his side’s return to the Group Stages of the AFC Champions League next month after the five-time A-League champions brushed aside Kaya FC Iloilo to book their place in Group H of this year’s competition.

Trent Buhagiar opened the scoring for the Australians before a brace each for Brazilian striker Bob and English substitute Adam Le Fondre gave Sydney a comfortable 5-0 win in challenging conditions in a stormy Sydney.
