East Asia Wrap: Kyoto go top in Japan; Chengdu overtake Shenhua in China PR

Hong Kong: The J1 League title race tightened further as Kyoto Sanga registered a commanding win, while Kashiwa Reysol and Vissel Kobe kept pace with narrow victories.

In Korea Republic, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors stretched their advantage after defeating defending champions Ulsan HD, while Daejeon Hana edged Gimcheon Sangmu in a key clash.

Chengdu Rongcheng took over top spot with a decisive win against Shanghai Port in China PR, while Shandong Taishan stunned Beijing FC.

Kuala Lumpur: The teams taking up the six remaining spots in the Group Stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2025/26 were confirmed following the conclusion of the Preliminary Stage on Sunday.

The six joined China PR’s Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC, Melbourne City FC of Australia, Korea Republic’s Suwon FC Women, Tokyo Verdy Beleza of Japan, Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC and Bam Khatoon FC of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Group Stage draw scheduled for September 11, with the action kicking off on November 9.

Qarshi: PFC Nasaf powered their way into the Group Stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2025/26 with a 2-1 win against College of Asian Scholars on Sunday.

The Uzbekistan side produced a dominant performance to confirm themselves as the Group B winners as they exorcised the disappointment of exiting at the same stage last season.

Melaka: Etihad Club defeated Kelana United of Malaysia 4-0 to finish second in Group C of the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2025/26 Preliminary Stage on Sunday.

The Jordanian side will have to wait for the outcome of the other groups to know if they can progress as the best overall second placed side.

Qarshi: Al Nassr Club of Saudi Arabia completed their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2025/26 Preliminary Stage campaign on a high after beating Nepal’s APF FC 6-1 on Sunday.

The result saw Al Nassr finish third on three points in Group B while APF ended in fourth with both sides already eliminated prior to the match.

Yangon: Esther Sunday scored twice as Mongolia’s Khovd Western FC completed their Group A commitments in the AFC Women’s Champions League preliminary stage on Sunday with a 5-2 win over Strykers FC of Guam in Yangon.

A rapid-fire double from the Nigerian in the 20th and 21st minute pushed the Mongolian side towards the win and a third place finish in the standings after Kim Hyun-jeong had put her side ahead after five minutes.

Ulzisbayar Badamkhatan and Jeong Eun-uk were also on target to ensure Orgilsaikhan Bayarmagnai’s took the points despite late goals from Yae Kawauchi and Aubrey Ibanez for the side from Guam.
