Late strikes seal title for Korea Republic

Suwon: Second half goals from Ji So-yun and Jang Sel-gi helped Korea Republic win the 2025 (EAFF) E-1 Football Women’s Championship with a 2-0 victory against Chinese Taipei on Wednesday.

The result saw Korea Republic tied on five points with China PR and Japan but they finished top on better ratio of goals scored in matches between the three sides to secure their first regional success since 2005.

Japan, China PR play to a stalemate

Suwon: Japan and China PR settled for a goalless draw in their concluding 2025 (EAFF) E-1 Football Women’s Championship tie on Wednesday.

The stalemate meant Korea Republic lifted the title following their 2-0 win after defeating Chinese Taipei with China PR finishing second and Japan third.

All three sides finished on five points with Korea Republic securing the title based on the ratio of goals scored in meetings between the three teams.

Iraq's Putros joins Persib Bandung

Kuala Lumpur: Iraq international defender Frans Putros has joined Indonesia’s Liga 1 champions Persib Bandung, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old Denmark-born Putros signed for the Javanese club after his three-season spell with Port FC in Thai League 1 came to a conclusion at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Japan’s Moriyasu, Korea Republic’s Hong encouraged by showings

Yongin: Hajime Moriyasu and Hong Myung-bo both expressed satisfaction as the 2025 EAFF (E1) Football Championship concluded on Tuesday.

Japan defended their title with a 1-0 win over Korea Republic to finish on nine points, with both head coaches taking a wider view of the tournament, which served as part of their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

With Europe-based players not part of his squad, Moriyasu relied on J1 League talent with the likes of Taisei Miyashiro and Ryo Germain among those given opportunities, with the Japan tactician pleased with what he saw.

Oman appoint Queiroz as head coach

Muscat: Oman named Carlos Queiroz as their new head coach on Tuesday as the West Asian side bid to reach the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Portuguese replaces Rashid Jaber, and has been appointed ahead of the AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 26 Playoff draw at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
