Jakarta: Islamic Republic of Iran’s title defence started with a 4-1 win against Malaysia in their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ Group D tie on Wednesday.

With the win, Iran joined Afghanistan - who beat Saudi Arabia 3-0 earlier in the day - on maximum points.

Jakarta: Afghanistan opened their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ Group D campaign with an impressive 3-0 win against Saudi Arabia at Jakarta International Velodrome on Wednesday.

Reza Hosseinpoor starred with two goals as Afghanistan - quarter-finalists in 2024 - got the resounding start they were seeking.

Jakarta: Japan signalled their title intentions by overpowering Australia 6-2 in their opening AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ Group C match on Wednesday.

The four-time champions produced a dominating performance at the Indonesia Arena and displayed their attacking talent with six different players finding the back of the net.

Manh Dung leads Vietnam by example

Jakarta: Vietnam captain Nguyen Manh Dung’s goal just before half-time in their Group B opener against Kuwait at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ was the moment that turned the match to his side’s advantage.

The goal came at a time when team morale had started to flag after Kuwait scored their third in the 19th minute - this after Vietnam had come from 2-0 down to level.

The strike galvanised the Southeast Asia side, and Manh Dung went on to net a second as he led his teammates to a dominating second-half performance that ended 5-4 in their favour.
