Group D: IR Iran send title warning

Bangkok: Islamic Republic of Iran were at their best as they sailed 4-0 past Kuwait in their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand™ 2024 Group D tie at the Hua Mark Indoor Arena on Monday.

The victory meant Iran topped the table with nine points with a quarter-final against Kyrgyz Republic next in their bid to win a 13th title.
 
Defeat for Kuwait meant elimination as debutants Afghanistan finished ahead of them on goal difference with both teams tied on four points.

Group D: Afghanistan book historic berth

Bangkok: Afghanistan made history by reaching the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 knockout stage in their debut after defeating Bahrain 3-2 at Bangkok Arena on Monday. 

With Group D winners Islamic Republic of Iran beating Kuwait 4-0 at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, Afghanistan leapfrogged the West Asians on goal difference to take second place in the group.
 
Afghanistan will now face Group C winners Tajikistan in the quarter-finals for a place at the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan.

Bangkok: Champions Japan had their title defence dramatically ended at the group stage as they were eliminated from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 after a 1-1 draw with Tajikistan at Bangkok Arena on Monday.

Japan had never before failed to make the knockout stages but their stunning Matchday One defeat to eventual group runners-up Kyrgyz Republic proved their undoing and instead Tajikistan progress at their expense as Group C winners along with their fellow Central Asians who they finish above on goal difference.

Bangkok: Kyrgyz Republic advanced to the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand™ 2024 quarter-finals after battling to a thrilling 5-5 stalemate against Korea Republic on Monday.

Trailing 4-2, Kyrgyz Republic turned on the power with a three-goal blitz before Korea Republic fought back for a share of the spoils with the Central Asian side finishing as the Group C runners-up.

Thailand, who had opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over China PR before scoring five unanswered goals against Myanmar, took the lead through Osamanmusa before Nguyen Thinh Phat levelled the tie, only for Worasak Srirangpirot to hit the winner with a minute left to play.

Doha: Kim Min-woo’s header 15 minutes from time earned Korea Republic a 1-0 win over Japan to seal top spot in Group B of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024™ at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Monday and set up a quarter-final meeting with Indonesia.

Japan, meanwhile, will take on hosts Qatar in their last eight encounter on Thursday after finishing in second place in the standings, with Go Oiwa’s side suffering their first defeat of the competition.
 
Kim scored 17 minutes after being introduced from the bench by head coach Hwang Sun-hong during a game that had looked destined for long periods to end in a draw as both teams had already secured their spots in the knockout rounds.
