Uzbekistan cruise; Tajikistan, Turkmenistan share spoils

Bishkek: Jaloliddin Masharipov led Uzbekistan to a 3-0 victory over Oman in their CAFA Nations Cup 2023 Group A opener on Sunday.

In the group’s other fixture, Tajikistan left it late to share the points with Turkmenistan.

Korea Republic finish fourth; maiden title for Uruguay

La Plata: Korea Republic finished fourth at the FIFA U20 World Cup Argentina 2023 after losing 3-1 to Israel in the third-place playoff on Sunday.

Korea Republic, who were defeated 2-1 by Italy in the semi-finals, were overwhelmed by Israel’s spirited second half display.

Meanwhile, a late Luciano Rodriguez goal secured Uruguay a 1-0 win against Italy as the South American side clinched their maiden title at the La Plata Stadium.

Kuala Lumpur: The 2021-22 Liga 1 winners Bali United will have a chance to qualify for the AFC Champions League™ 2023-24 after they defeated defending champions PSM Makassar on penalties in a two-legged playoff which decided who among the two will represent Indonesia in the qualifiers of the continental tournament. 

Reigning champions Johor Darul Ta’zim registered an unprecedented 14 victories from 14 matches from the start of the league season as the Southern Tigers defeated Terengganu 3-1 to extend their advantage at the top to 11 points and remain on course for an incredible 10th consecutive league title in Malaysia.

In China PR, Brazilian attacking midfielder Oscar converted two penalties to help pacesetters Shanghai Port secure a comeback victory against Nantong Zhiyun on Friday while their crosstown rivals Shanghai Shenhua are four points behind following a narrow 1-0 win over Qingdao Hainiu.

Kuala Lumpur: Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds were crowned the Asian champions for the third time as they defeated Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal SFC 2-1 on aggregate in the final of the AFC Champions League™ 2022, bringing the curtains down on another thrilling edition of Asia’s premier club competition.

After a tournament that saw 384 goals in 130 matches, it’s now up to you, the fans of Asian football, to decide which goal deserves to be named the best of the tournament. So in the second semi-final, the-AFC.com brings you eight goals from the West Asia section of the draw for you to look back on.
