Indonesia edged Thailand on penalties to seal the 2018 crown on home soil, a triumph which sparked a run into the quarter-finals of the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship, but will face no shortage of challengers in their bid to defend the AFF U-15 Championship title.
Drawn in Group A, Indonesia will have to battle past Myanmar, Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Singapore and Philippines to seal a place in the semi-finals.
Asian hopefuls to identify 2020 Qualifiers opponents
Kuala Lumpur: Asia’s budding talents will begin their journey to the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Finals after identifying their Qualifying opponents in the official draw ceremony at the AFC House on Thursday.
All 47 AFC Member Associations (MAs) have expressed their interest to participate in the 2020 Qualifiers, where they will be divided into two zones of WEST (West, South and Central) with 25 teams, and EAST (East and ASEAN) with 22 teams.
The WEST Zone shall have five groups of four teams and one group of five teams, while the EAST Zone shall have three groups of four teams and two groups with five teams.
The Asian hopefuls will vie for top spot in their respective groups that promises direct qualification, while four best second-placed teams will advance to the 2020 Finals.
