Agamyradov hails strong-willed Turkmenistan

Tashkent: Head coach Ahmet Agamyradov said his players showed nerves of steel to force a 2-2 draw against Qatar to seal a place in the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Turkmenistan became only the third debutants to reach the knockout stage, following in the footsteps of Malaysia and Palestine, who achieved the feat in 2018.

Agamyradov’s charges showed tremendous fighting spirit when they forced their way back into the tie with substitute Begencmyrat Myradov netting a brace after Osamah Al Tairi had put Qatar two goals ahead.

Tashkent: Australia secured their place in the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 quarter-finals after beating Jordan 1-0 on Tuesday, with head coach Trevor Morgan now expecting an even steeper learning curve heading into their third successive knockout stage appearance.

After an hour of goalless action, Ramy Najjarine scored from the penalty spot to hand Australia what would prove to be the winning goal at the Lokomotiv Stadium to finish top of Group B and secure a quarter-final meeting with Turkmenistan.

Group A: Resilient Turkmenistan advance to historic quarter-finals

Tashkent: Turkmenistan came from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw against Qatar in Group A to seal a historic AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 quarter-final ticket at the Bunyodkor Stadium on Tuesday.

Debutants Turkmenistan looked to be heading out after Qatar’s Osamah Al Tairi scored in the 65th and 73rd minutes but they refused to give up as Begencmyrat Myradov replied with two goals of his own in the 75th and 82nd minutes.

With Islamic Republic of Iran only managing a 1-1 draw with Group A winners Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan finished second on four points and will face Group B's top side Australia in the quarter-finals.

Qarshi: Qarshi: The Islamic Republic of Iran’s run in the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 came to an end after playing to a 1-1 draw against Uzbekistan at the Markaziy Stadium on Tuesday. 

Uzbekistan scored in the first half from Jurakuziyev Otabek and IR Iran levelled through Arya Yousefi but could not find the winner as they made their exit from the Group Stage with Uzbekistan finishing as Group A winners followed by history-makers Turkmenistan, who fought back from two goals down to hold Qatar 2-2.

Group B: Najjarine penalty seals Olyroos top spot

Tashkent: Australia survived going down to 10 men to defeat Jordan 1-0 to top Group B of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 on Tuesday. 

It took a Ramy Najjarine second half penalty to secure the points for Australia to emerge group winners with seven points, setting up a quarter-final clash with the Group A runners-up.

For Jordan, defeat meant elimination with Iraq - who defeated Kuwait 3-1 - finishing runners-up with five points.

Group B: Iraq produce stunning fightback to book knockout stage ticket

Qarshi: Iraq fought back from a goal down to defeat Kuwait 3-1 in Group B to seal their AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 quarter-final ticket at the Markaziy Stadium on Tuesday.

Kuwait made their West Asian opponents sweat when Yousef Alrasheedi opened the scoring but the hero turned villain after missing from the spot, leading to an Iraq fightback that saw goals from Muntadher Mohammed, Moamel Abdulridha Ogaili and Mohammed Albaqer to dramatically seal their qualification to the next stage as the Group B runners-up behind Australia.
