Qualifiers - Group F: Turkmenistan beat Palestine to stay in race

Amman: Turkmenistan kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 after defeating Palestine 3-1 in Group F at the King Abdullah II Stadium on Thursday.

The win means Ahmet Agamyradov’s men can still advance to the Finals despite having suffered an agonising 1-0 defeat to Jordan, who play Palestine on Sunday.

Qualifiers - Group A: Qatar sizzle against Sri Lanka, Yemen hold Syria

Doha: Qatar stayed perfect after beating Sri Lanka 5-0 on Matchday Two of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 Qualifiers on Thursday, while Yemen and Syria played out to 0-0 draw. 

Qatar lead Group A with six points and only need to avoid defeat against Syria on Sunday to qualify. 

Syria, on four points, will have to defeat Qatar to book the sole automatic spot to the Finals from the group while Yemen and Sri Lanka’s dreams were dashed.

Qualifiers - Group B: Tajikistan, IR Iran set up final day showdown

Dushanbe: Islamic Republic of Iran and group hosts Tajikistan set up a winner-takes-all Group B finale in AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 qualifying after both sides secured wins on Thursday.

Iran earned a 2-0 win over Lebanon in the early match at Dushanbe’s Central Republican Stadium, before Tajikistan piled on the goals to beat Nepal 6-0 in the later game.

Qualifiers - Group H: Korea Republic flex muscles against Timor Leste, Singapore defeat Philippines

Singapore: Korea Republic continued their rich vein of form in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 qualifiers with a 6-0 win over Timor Leste, while Singapore edged the Philippines 1-0 in Group H ties at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Thursday.

Korea Republic raced to a 3-0 lead going into the break and the defending champions  can seal top spot if they avoid defeat against Singapore,  who must triumph on Sunday to emerge group winners.

Qualifiers - Group K: Japan cruise past Hong Kong to seal Finals berth

Futaba: Japan qualified for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 Finals following a 4-0 win over Hong Kong at the J-Village Stadium on Thursday.

Having defeated Cambodia by the same score, Japan are the first team to join hosts Uzbekistan in the 2022 Finals.

Qualifiers - Group J: Malaysia edge Mongolia to boost hopes, Thailand bounce back to defeat Laos

Ulaanbaatar: Muhammad Nur Azfar’s strike proved to be the difference as Malaysia edged Mongolia 1-0 to make it two wins out of two in Group J of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 Qualifiers on Thursday, while Thailand beat Laos 3-0 to revive their campaign. 

The win places Malaysia top of the standings and they only need to avoid defeat against Thailand on Sunday to secure their place in the Finals, while Mongolia’s best hope now is to defeat Laos and advance as one of the four best runners-up.

Gustavsson wants tough build up for Australia

Sydney: Australia head coach Tony Gustavsson wants the Matildas to play as many games against high-class opposition as possible to prepare his squad for the country’s co-hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.

The Australians were held to a 2-2 draw by Brazil on Tuesday in the second of back-to-back clashes with the South Americans, with Gustavsson’s side winning the opening encounter 3-1 on Saturday.
 
The Matildas will play two more friendlies next month against as-yet unannounced opponents before travelling for January’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022, where they will be among the favourites to win the title.
