Seoul: Korea Republic will play friendlies against Iceland and Moldova in Turkey as Paulo Bento’s squad prepare for their next matches in the AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to Qatar in January and February.
Bento named a 26-man squad featuring Asia-based players for the games, which will be played in Atalya. The Taeguk Warriors meet Iceland on January 15 before facing the Moldovans six days later.
Beijing: Li Tie has resigned as head coach of the China PR national team and been replaced by former Shandong Luneng coach Li Xiaopeng, the Chinese Football Association announced on Friday.
China PR are currently in fifth place in Group B of AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to Qatar with five points from their opening six games and 11 points behind leaders Saudi Arabia, having won just once since the start of the final phase of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 preliminaries.
Qatar announces completion of seventh tournament-ready venue for the FIFA World Cup 2022™
Doha: Stadium 974 has been officially unveiled and will host its first match on November 30 when the United Arab Emirates and Syria go head-to-head on the opening day of the FIFA Arab Cup™.
Stadium 974 is the seventh tournament venue to be completed by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and follows Khalifa International, Al Janoub, Education City, Ahmad Bin Ali, Al Bayt and Al Thumama in being declared ready to host matches during the FIFA World Cup 2022™, which will kick off on November 21 next year.
The venue – formerly known as Ras Abu Aboud – is made primarily from shipping containers and is located close to Doha Port, directly opposite the spectacular West Bay skyline. The innovative design means this is the first fully demountable stadium in FIFA World Cup™ history.
Draw date set for new-look FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ intercontinental playoffs
Zurich: The draw for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ intercontinental playoffs will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, on Friday, 26 November 2021.
The fixtures that will determine who plays who between the AFC, Concacaf, CONMEBOL and the OFC in the contest for the last two spots at football’s flagship global event will be decided after the European playoff draw, which will start at 17:00 CET. Both draws will be streamed live on FIFA.com for all territories.
Damascus: Syria Football Association announced on Thursday the appointment of Romanian Valeriu Tita as head coach of the national team.
The 55-year-old replaces Nizar Mahrous, who was dismissed on Tuesday following the recent poor results in the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar, with Syria having lost 3-0 to Islamic Republic of Iran on Matchday Six.
Tita will arrive in Damascus on Tuesday as Syria prepare to take part in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup where they are in Group B along with Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Mauritania.
Saida: Lebanon head coach Ivan Hasek couldn’t find words to speak in detail following his side’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of the United Arab Emirates on Matchday 6 of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar at the Saida Municipal Stadium on Tuesday.
Hasek's men were the better side but failed to convert their chances into goals before Ali Mabkhout successfully slotted home a penalty past Mustafa Matar with five minutes left on the clock.
