Moriyasu names Minamino, Tomiyasu, Yoshida in Japan squad
Tokyo: Head coach Hajime Moriyasu has included Europe-based players Takumi Minamino, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Maya Yoshida in Japan's squad for matches against Korea Republic and Mongolia.
Moriyasu named a squad of 23 players for the friendly against Korea Republic on Thursday, which will be followed by the Asian Qualifiers tie for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 against Mongolia five days later.
Uzbekistan set to be first-ever Central Asian host of AFC U23 Asian Cup in 2022
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee has today ratified the AFC Competitions Committee’s recommendation to award the hosting rights of the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 to the Uzbekistan Football Association in a milestone decision which will mark the first time the tournament will be staged in the Central Zone.
The decision to award the hosting of the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 to Uzbekistan, which will be held from June 1-19, was reached following a comprehensive assessment of the bidding proposals, which include meeting all the sporting, infrastructure and risk assessment requirements as well as the preparations already in place for the recently cancelled AFC U-19 Championship Uzbekistan 2020.
The tournament, which was won by Korea Republic when it was held in Thailand last year, will begin its Qualifiers later this year from October 23 – 31, 2021 in a centralised format with the venues to be decided and communicated in due course.

Dushanbe: Tajikistan national team boss Usmon Toshev has revealed his squad for next week’s vital Asian Qualifiers match against Mongolia, naming 23 eligible players for the clash at Dushanbe Central Republic Stadium.
The Central Asian side currently lie third in Group F, making next Thursday’s match one they likely must win if they are to remain in with a realistic chance of advancing to the third round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which would also mean a slot in the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Finals.

Philippines’ United City snap up Jonathan Campbell
Manila: Philippines side United City FC have strengthened their squad by signing former Svay Rieng FC defender Jonathan Campbell ahead of their 2021 AFC Champions League group stage debut.
United City’s decision to sign 19-year-old Campbell comes after his impressive display during the club's 4-0 win over Cambodia's Svay Rieng in the 2020 AFC Cup.
With the 2021 AFC Champions League expanded to 40 teams, United City FC will appear in the group stage for the first time with the Philippines champions having Japan's Kawasaki Frontale, Beijing FC of China PR and a playoff winner for company in Group I.
