Renard delighted with emphatic Saudi Arabia win

Riyadh: Head coach Herve Renard was delighted after seeing his Saudi Arabia side cruise to a 5-0 win against Palestine in Group D of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Tuesday.

A brace from Saleh Al Shehri and further goals from Yasser Al Shahrani, Fahad Al Muwallad and Salem Al Dawsari at King Saud University Stadium steered the Green Falcons to the top of the group with 11 points from five matches.

Five star Saudi Arabia cruise past Palestine to top Group D

Riyadh: The return of fans was the main story as Saudi Arabia cruised to a 5-0 victory over Palestine to move top of Group D of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Tuesday.

After a dominant start to the game, Saudi Arabia got their first chance of the game after 13 minutes as Saleh Al Shehri exchanged passes with Fahad Al Muwallad and fired an effort from the edge of the area that sailed high and wide off the Palestinian goal.

Palestine came closest to opening the scoring 10 minutes before the break as Mahmoud Abu Warda tested goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais with a curled cross-cum-shot from the right wing which deceived the Saudi goalkeeper allowing Saleh Chihadeh to strike on the rebound, but Al Owais was able to recover and save the second ball.

Chiba: Japan handed Mongolia an emphatic 14-0 defeat in the second round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Tuesday as Hajime Moriyasu’s side moved closer to securing a berth in the next round. 

The win ensures the Japanese maintain their perfect record after five games in Group F and will book their place in the third phase of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying if they defeat Myanmar when the two teams meet in Japan on June 3.

Japan, who are looking to reach their seventh FIFA World Cup in a row at Qatar in 2022, scored five first-half goals to take complete control of the game against Mongolia.

But the Blue Samurai refused to take their foot off the gas, notching another nine after the break to set a new qualifying record and finish just one goal short of their all-time biggest win.
