Arnold steps down as Australia head coach

Sydney: Graham Arnold has resigned as Australia coach with immediate effect after the Socceroos failed to win either of their opening games in the AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 26 earlier this month.

Football Australia confirmed on Friday that the former Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners coach had stepped down from his position having been in role for more than six years and qualifying his side for the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Having also lost to Morocco in their opener, Tajikistan now have to beat Panama in their final group game on Saturday to stand a chance of reaching the Round of 16.

Manila: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors made a winning start to Group H of the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 on Thursday as the K League 1 side eased to a comprehensive 6-0 win over Dynamic Herb Cebu FC from the Philippines in Manila’s Rizal Memorial Stadium.

First half goals from Jin Tae-ho, Kim Chang-hun and Moon Seon-min sent Kim Do-heon’s team on their way to a comfortable victory with Bak Jae-yong adding a fourth three minutes into the second half.

Yu Je-ho and Park Chae-jun completed the scoring as the pair netted in the 74th and 77th minutes respectively.

The Moroccan put his new club in front in the 32nd minute before hitting the third 10 minutes after the restart with captain Rhyan Grant having doubled the lead a minute before the end of the first half.

While a missed penalty in the 62nd minute took some of the shine off the performance of Patryk Klimala, another recent arrival, a pair of own goals from Daniel Almazan and Leung Chun Pong confirmed a comfortable victory for Sydney.
