Guwahati: Oman came from a goal down to beat India 2-1 in their opening Asian Qualifiers Group E tie for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Thursday. 

Sunil Chhetri had given India a first half lead but the young Rabia Alawi Al Mandhar turned out to be the hero as he scored twice to give Oman the three points.

Matchday 1: Results & Reports

Kuala Lumpur: Matchday 1 of the second round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 saw 16 matches being played across the Continent on Thursday.

It was a day of high quality action as 32 of the 40 teams involved in this phase of the Asian Qualifiers got their campaigns underway.

The teams now have a four-day break before Matchday 2 on Tuesday, which will see Australia, China PR, Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia kicking off their campaigns.

MD1 - Group C: Cambodia 1-1 Hong Kong

Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Hong Kong shared the spoils as they played to a 1-1 draw in their opening Asian Qualifiers tie for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Thursday.

Both sides had targeted a winning start in their Group C tie but cancelled each other out in a match which saw both goals being scored in the first half.

West Bank: Palestine secured a stunning 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their opening FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers tie on Thursday.

Uzbekistan had been the favourites going into the Group D match but Palestine made full use of home ground advantage to secure a vital three points.

Dushanbe: Tajikistan made a winning start to their FIFA World Cup Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers Group F campaign, defeating neighbours Kyrgyz Republic 1-0 at the Republican Central Stadium on Thursday.

After taking just one point from eight matches at the same stage of qualifying four years ago, Usmon Toshev’s side got the resulted play merited thanks to an Alisher Dzhalilov strike just before half-time

Their win creates an unlikely top of the table clash against Mongolia on Tuesday, while a misfiring Kyrgyz Republic have until October 10 to iron out their problems ahead of their next match against Myanmar.

Jakarta: Mohamadou Sumareh struck deep into added time as Malaysia edged Indonesia 3-2 in their FIFA World Cup Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers Group G tie at a pulsating Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Thursday.

In an ASEAN derby which saw Indonesia lead twice, Malaysia came to life in the second half and their determination paid off with Sumareh scoring in the sixth minute of added time.

Pathum Thani: The spoils were shared in Group G’s first ASEAN derby, with Thailand and Vietnam playing out a 0-0 draw in their opening FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers match on Thursday.

Reigning regional champions Vietnam and a Thai side in their first match under head coach Akira Nishino both had their moments in Pathum Thani, but neither managed to find the breakthrough required to make a winning start to their campaign.
